A
brief introduction of the most beautiful country of the world: Nepal
Nepal is a
secular and sovereign country (area 147,181 sq. km) which lies between China
and India in south East Asia and stretches along the Himalayas. It is the land
of Gurkhas which has never been colonized in its entire period of existence.
It is a country gifted with natural and cultural diversity which makes it one of the most sought-after tourist destinations of the world. The geographical and cultural diversity in such a small country results from the inclusion of terai region, hilly region and mountain region all within the span of 160 km (average) from north to south. Within this distance (160km) north to south, it covers mt. Everest (8848m) to Kanchan kalan (70m from sea level). The capital city Kathmandu lies in hilly region and is the living museum of the world (with 7 world heritage sites within Kathmandu listed in UNESCO).
Nepal experiences five seasons: summer, monsoon, autumn, winter and spring. The Himalaya blocks cold winds from Central Asia in the winter and forms the northern limit of the monsoon wind patterns. In a land once thickly forested, deforestation is a major problem in all regions, with resulting erosion and degradation of ecosystems.
Nepal is popular for mountaineering, having some of the highest and most challenging mountains in the world, including Mount Everest. Technically, the south-east ridge on the Nepali side of the mountain is easier to climb; so, most climbers prefer to trek to Everest through Nepal.
