Tourism industry is regaining its scope and status
which had been a bit hit by the havoc caused by earthquake and economic
blockade in our country last year. This month marked a good atmosphere in the
tourism industry in Nepal. Some projects got completed and some are set to
kick-off. Let’s have a look at the trending tourism news of the month.
1. Everest starts regaining climbers after quake disaster of
April 2015
The earthquake of April 2015 caused havoc among mountaineers
in pursuit of climbing the Himalayas. It raised serious questions in the tourism
industry in Nepal mainly due to safety issues. However, it was inevitable that
there would be a restoring point in numbers of Everest climbers. A total of 45
climbers have already successfully ascended the Everest since the beginning of
climbing season this year. A total of 1,432 mountaineers from 97 expedition
teams of various countries have already arrived in Nepal to climb Mount Everest
among other mountains this year. Among
them altogether 34 are to make attempt to ascend the roof of the world.
2. Bandipur drawing tourists again
According to the reports published in The Himalayan Times,
Bandipur- one of the major tourist hub in the country is gaining traction after
a sharp decline in visitors’ number in 2015. The number of visitors which had dropped
to two third of its average annual visitors last year has again started to
regain its usual numbers. Bandipur used to receive more than 120,000 tourists
every year during peak season. The number dropped to 30,000 last year. This
year, the numbers are rising as it used to and as it should. The rise of
tourists in Bandipur is mainly due to the restoration among tourists the belief
that Bandipur is safe to travel.
Bandipur’s 60 tourist-standard hotels boast 1,200
room-nights, where panoramic mountain vews, including that of Annapurna and
Manaslu, are the major draw. Also, the local tourism entrepreneurs have formed
a campaign to attract domestic as well as international tourists, and turn
around its fate to normal or may be hope for better results than the previous
years.
3. Nepal Ghumfir Barsa 2073
The government of Nepal has decided to announce the Nepali
year 2073 as Nepal Ghumfir Barsa 2073. The main purpose of such initiation is
to attract the domestic as well as international tourists to Nepal. It will
also be a boost for the Nepalese tourism industry which had been bit hit by the
disastrous earthquake the country suffered back in April2015, and fuel shortage
triggered due to trade embargo last year.
4. Government set to establish an International Airport in
Pokhara
The Pokhara International Airport project is set to take off
as the Prime Minister K.P Oli laid the foundation stone for the project to
commence. The project along with 2 other
international airports in Bara and Lumbini is estimated to be completed by 2022. So, our country is set to have 4 International airport by 2022.

5. Chandragiri Cable Car project is now complete
The project marked its completion with its successful testing
on May 7, 2016. The cable car which connects
Chandragiri and Thankot v.d.c can boost the tourism industry of the very

6. Nepal government decided mark 2018 as Visit Nepal year
2018
The government of Nepal
has proposed to celebrate 2018 as “Visit Nepal Year” aiming to bring at least a
million international tourists in the year. The government also outlined
